They called her sunshine... her real name was Virginia Clark.
To family, friends, and even casual acquaintances, she brought warmth and strength
to a lifelong battle with cancer that eventually took her life, but did not take the life out of her living. You
can read more about Virginia and her battle with cancer here.
In this same spirit, we are organizing the Race for Virginia and Friends 5K Run/Walk...
to help other children battle this dreadful disease. We are calling upon members of every community to join together
in taking the necessary steps toward finding a cure. Athletes, families, schools, church groups, and many more
will be participating in this meaningful and fun event to be held during the 27th Annual Cranberry Community Day on July 4, 2003.
Each year the Race for Virginia will honor another child and their family who
has battled cancer. This year, the race remembers 7-year-old Samuel John McConahy who battled brain cancer for
2 1/2 years before he was taken. You can read more about Samuel .
We are asking for your help in sponsoring The Race for Virginia and Friends 5K
Run/Walk. The tax deductible proceeds from this event will be contributed to the Pediatric Research Fund at Children's
Hospital of Pittsburgh. Click here to find out more about sponsorship opportunities.
It is our hope that no more children should have to endure the pain and suffering
of childhood cancer. Help us take the first steps in this worthwhile campaign.
Sincerely,
Bina Fyock
Race Director
